Moving Lines (3rd grade)

Moving Line Project "How to make a line move?"... is the question that third grade students were asked. We discussed vertical, horizontal and wavy lines. Vertical lines seem tall and strong. Horizontal lines in a work of art seem placid or calm. While wavy and diagonal lines show movement. Students in third grade drew diagonal lines across their 8 1/2" X 12" paper and colored inside those lines using various colors of markers. Supplies Needed: One sheet of white construction paper, 9"x12"…

Bottle Caps - love this! I spy caps from water bottles, Coca-Cola, and maybe some milk jug caps too. This would make a great class project.

Collaborative Watercolor Painting

This was an interesting project to watch as it came together. Kindergarten completed large watercolor resist art pieces. I painted the big black lines and they filled in. I didn't give them specific instructions as to how I wanted them to fill these in, that was left up to them. I wanted to see how they went about the process themselves. All they were told is that they would use crayon to add details and watercolor to fill space with color. You could really see who the take charge…

shine brite zamorano: group art marker printing project inspired by Lu Summers quilt design.

all together now.

The final piece of the 3rd grade Lu Summers quilt project was to have early finishers color their styrofoam plates one more time and contribute it to a a larger 3rd quilt image. The biggest we could go was 20x30 and that accomodated 17 student plates. Three of these so far, with probably enough for one more of equal or slightly smaller size. I had student helpers at recess and lunch recess help me with the printing of these larger stamps. I wish I had larger paper:) These are like the…

During Celebrate Freedom Week, students could make a collage of Lady-Liberty, with words that describe why they should celebrate freedom. I love the idea of art-incorporation into the mainstream classroom.
