The headdress includes long silk veils and a velvet cap encrusted with pearls and embroidered with gold wire.

Chrysomándilo costume from Astypalaia, Dodecanese  Circa 1870  ©Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, Nafplion, Greece  This bridal and festive costume of Astypalaia, the chrysomándilo, belonged to the Palatianos family and, according to Irini (Rinaki) Palatianou, it had been passed down through four generations starting with her great-grandmother, who was born in about 1850. The chrysomándilo takes its name from the gold-embroidered, pearl-encrusted frontlet of its headdress.
