Shyruiken! I wanted to write 1 more post today as I leave Japan after spending a month here and it was sad to leave. Japan has been a very special place for me. One of the many reasons I wanted to travel was to learn to be more comfortable in my own company and to feel more secure about being alone. Being a huge extrovert I find being alone difficult especially in new places. I used to get anxiety attacks when I first travelled alone and I spent the whole day not meeting or talking much to anyone. Before starting my backpacking trip I had a few sleepless nights worried about being alone and far from home. It has always been a big fear of mine to be alone. But Japan has been incredible. I spent the whole month pretty much travelling by myself. Of course I met people but I never once travelled to another place with anyone or even spent the day with anyone else. I was with myself and even though it was daunting at first I absolutely loved it. The pinnacle was walking the Kumano Kodo a 4 day hike through forests and mountains by myself. I spent most of the days alone thinking about everything I wanted to and admiring the nature. It taught me to cherish time alone and how refreshing it can be just be by yourself to think or do what you want. This may sound stupid but another Japanese character I love is Ryu from the Street Fighter series. Here is me doing his special move! Ryu's heart is pure he is a very sefless guy always helping and protecting those around him. He is always alone a solo wanderer who hardly gets attached to a place or person. He travels around the Himalayas and Japan to train to get stronger but also to help those along the way. Ryu is a great fighter but knows the most important fight is the internal fight between good and bad. All my childhood I wanted to be like Ryu walking alone in the nature and making myself mentally and physically stronger. Japan gave me that feeling and I am so grateful for it. Arigato Gozaimasu to this country. It has been the place where I met myself again. It has been the place where I gained the strength to be alone. It will forever be a turning point for me!
