Kharpocho fort is the ancient architecture of Skardu. Most importantly the whole of Skardu city can be seen from the top of Kharpocho. The Kharpocho Fort also known as Skardu Fort is situated in Skardu city, Gilgit Baltistan. Kharpocho means “King of Forts” in Balti and is an amazing sight for tourists. Fort stands at a height of about 40m above the city on a mountain. The fort is located on the bank of the Indus river. Near this Fort is the junction point of the Shigar river in the Indus river.

The Skardu valley capital city of Baltistan also called Baltiyul. This is the main town of Baltistan along the bank of the Indus river. Skardu is the largest district in the Gilgit Baltistan. The word “Skardu” is a Balti language word meaning a low ground between two high places. Skardu is introduced in the European literature by a Frenchman Francios Bernier (1625–1688). Who mentioned the city by the name of Eskerdou.

The water of the lake is clean, clear, and ice-cold and has a depth of almost 70 meters. The trip to SKARDU is not complete if Upper Kachura Lake is not visited. Lake in between the majestical Skardu Valley mountains.

Shangrilla lake Skardu also known as the lower Kachura lake is in the Kachura village of the district Skardu, Baltistan Division. The name Shangrilla is the Tibetan language word meaning “Heaven on earth“.
