Hélène Vagliano (Paris 1909-Cannes 1944), daughter of the Greek shipowner Marinos Vallianos, joined the French resistance against the collaboranionist regime of Vichy from 1941. She has been arrested and tortured by Gestapo at Cannes, where she has been executed on August 28, 1944, few hours before the Allied forces entered the city of Cannes. A street in modern Cannes bears her name and a memorial on the Greek island of Cephallonia (homeland of the Vallianos family) commemorate her action.

Kalavrita December 13, 1943.  Women--wives, mothers, daughters and orphans mourn the victims of Merkel's predecessors. In the Greek village Kalavrita Wehrmacht Troops executed all the male population and set the houses in fire. The Germans left behind 800 dead.

Eleni Gatzoyiannis - Greek Civil War 1948   Was killed to stop communists from enlisting her children to fight to wrest Macedonia from Greece & the Pedomazoma or child gathering that saw 28,000 Greek children stolen from their families and sent to communist slavic countries to become janissaries who would be indoctrinated to fight against their own country,  Eleni's son author Nicholas Gage, a Times reporter wrote his bestseller Eleni on his research into his mother's death
