Their red lips and eyes represented the fires of Hell that blazed through their white dead skulls and their red hair represented flame. They entertained pilgrims in between dramatized scenes from the bible and were intended to be scary. So if you're afraid of Clowns...you Should be. Cuz Clowns are demons from Hell. This is a perfect example of how I am going to create the illusion of a missing eye using black cardboard and then latex or skintite round the edges to add depth to the eye to highlight the gouged out effect.
