The chair is made out of white oak, a light grey hard wood that has the perfect properties for steam bending. Not only is it pliable when steamed, it's also holds its shape for decades without much recoil. In this picture, I'm glueing together quarter inch laminates I cut on the table saw, which are clamped onto a formwork that I made out of MDF (Medium-density fibreboard).
Glulam Manufacture
Glued laminated timber (also abbreviated as glulam) is a structurally engineered wood product, manufactured by bonding layers of timber together using a durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesive. This is a photograph of the clamps compressing a stack of timber to manufacture three separate glulam beams.
