Pinocchio Lizard (Anolis proboscis) by Douglas Main, csmonitor: Thought to be extinct for 50 years, it has been rediscovered in the cloud forests of Ecuador. The lizard's noselike appendage is a sexually selected trait that likely serves no functional purpose but to advertise a male's good genes; females of the species have no such "noses." If they die we die - help them in your garden by planting open single head flowers, planting the same plants in clusters rather than peppered around the garden, plant for a succession of flowers throughout the year. Some good varieties include snowdrops, aconites, blackthorn, mahonia, hollyhocks, foxgloves, forget me nots, borage, lavender, wild thyme, buddleia and let the clover grow in your lawn. If you have space for a wild patch they also love dandelion and nettle. Shaded Garden, The Great Outdoors, Bugs And Insects, Beekeeping, Wild Thyme, Bees Knees, Honey Bees
