Fun Actvities for Dental Health Month and Dr Seuss' Birthday

I love this book!!! It is perfect for young children when you are talking about issues of teeth and it wraps up February nicely leading right into Dr Seuss's Birthday!!!. At our local school store I picked up a pad of teeth shapes, teeth stickers, and 10 tooth erasers. I took 10 of them and put the numbers 1-10 and then another ten and put stickers on them 1 on 1, 2 on another and continue through the number ten. This is great on so many levels and this what I use these for: 1. Taking the…

Mrs. Hodge and Her Kindergarten Kids: Dental Health

Dental Health

I know that dental health was months ago but I just had to share these pictures I found today! Keep in mind that this was done back in February but the handwriting of some of the kids were so good!!! My colleagues and I, of course, went to Pinterest for ideas when it came to teaching all about teeth!! (I mean, really, who doesn't LOVE that site???) Anyhow, as a class, we first read books about your teeth, proper health of them, how and why to brush, going to the dentist, etc. We then started…

I'm pretty sure that Dental health month is in February, but we are just getting to it as part of a larger community helpers unit. Today's theme was technically dentist. There are lots of pictures from today. It feels like we did a ton. (new addition at the bottom- 5/2013) Here are the books I read. Max Goes to the Dentist by Adria F. Klein and Clarabella's Teeth by An Vrombaut. The Max book was a good follow up to our special guest today and the Clarabella book was just a short cute book…

What If You Had Animal Teeth?

Today we tried our hand at a little opinion writing. But first let me back up. This year in our state we are getting our feet wet with the ELA Common Core Standards. We’ve been doing the Math Standards for the last couple of years. My firsties had a good time listening to the story and completing the follow up activity. I just love this book! Here are a few pictures of the page spreads. After reading the book we discussed what it would be like to have some of the teeth we’d read about. Then…

Dental Health Month

We had a blast this week learning about dental health. The kids were excited to learn and share what they already knew about keeping their teeth healthy. I was inspired by A Cupcake for the Teacher, and we made her tooth and toothbrush craft! Make sure you visit her adorable blog! Here are some snapshots of our week...
