1️⃣ It’s a long process. Grey transitions normally take me anywhere from 8-14+ hours. And yes, all in one visit. And yes, that means it’s expensive. Depending on where you go, these are generally 4-digit salon services.

2️⃣ Not everyone is a good candidate. Not everyone’s hair can be lifted to grey. This is why I require test strands before booking these. If someone isn’t a good candidate for a grey transition, they still have other options: going blonde, going “greige”, or low lighting their grey to break up the demarcation line. These are all “easier” options for growing out grey vs going cold turkey. Of course there is also just going cold turkey & there is nothing wrong with that 🙌

3️⃣ There is still maint

This beauty came in today for her second session in transitioning her dark permanent base to a softer, more translucent demi base. This process is great for those who are tired of seeing a harsh demarcation line every 2-4 weeks, but also aren’t ready to fully embrace their greys just yet. A demi base is the perfect in-between.

12K views · 1.2K reactions | styling my curly hair for the first time after pretty much cutting half of it off ✨

I always struggle to figure out how much product to use after a haircut because as someone with fine hair, product can easily weigh it down.

In this case I applied a bit too much gel (it’s hard to tell how much I’m using with the soufflé lol) but since I style on wet hair, I usually scrunch it out with a microfiber towel before diffusing anyway. If there’s a cast like there was today, using the praying method followed by scrunching will do the trick!

I personally love being left with a cast because that means that my curls will last me longer 🫶

This grey transition took over 12 hours - this was due to the intricacies of trying to match her natural “salt & pepper” grey pattern as closely as we could which required me to separate the “salt” from “pepper” strand by strand. Also, there were a few extra obstacles in her hair that I had to carefully work around due to a previous grey transition attempt & previous highlights.

It was 12+ hours of non-stop work. Like actual non-stop. As soon as I finished foiling one section, I had to start dropping the previous section, so there was never a full processing time I could sit or take a break. This is why grey-transitions are one of the most labor intensive, thus most expensive services in the salon. 42K views · 3.3K reactions | 5 things to know about grey transformations:

3️⃣ There is still maint All In One, Going Blonde, Low Lights, Transformations, Vs Go, Candidate, 5 Things, Just Go

This isn’t a “one & done” deal. I mean, the giant full-day session is only done once, but after that, the toner still needs to be maintained until the processed hair has grown out & it’s cut off. I also will sometimes recommend one more blending session about 8 months out from the initial visit. Usually to apply one more round of lowlights to blend it just a bit more as it grows. 4️⃣ This is an AGGRESSIVE process. There’s no way around that & I’m not going to lie to my clients and EVER tell them that this process is even remotely healthy for their hair. It’s not. But for MANY, it’s worth it to just have a look that they can wear down & styled without having to deal with a hard line of demarcation. There are many things I do to mitigate damage during the process - lifting low & slow, using k18, etc, but at the end of the day, it’s still aggressive. My clients are put on a regimen of treatments & at home haircare to restore some hair health, and keep their strands shiny, soft & manageable until it grows out & is cut off. 5️⃣ speaking of processed hair, no matter what I do to match the processed hair to natural grey, processed hair will NEVER look exactly like virgin grey hair. There will still ALWAYS be a subtle line of demarcation as it grows. The upside is that again, it’ll be a much softer growout than what they had before. Blunt Bob, Blunt Cuts, Curly Hair Tutorial, Bob Cut, Hairline
156K views · 8.3K reactions | I absolutely adore a blunt bob on curly hair 🌀 There’s a trick to getting that super straight, super blunt line - The outside corners of the back two quadrants need to be significantly longer than the center, and even longer on the side quadrants in order to appear “even” all the way around. This is because of the way curly hair springs up in areas where the natural hairline curves up. To get the proper lengths, I used a wide tooth comb as my cutting comb for super low tension, allowing the hair to be cut where it lives.
