A Fun Bookworm Wall Display

I know the school year is almost over (WOO HOO!), but it's not too late to post another teaching tid-bit, is it? I found this idea on Pinterest. Every year, I start off with my all time favorite, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. Have you read this book? If not, add it to your…

Classroom Expectations and Belief Subway Art: We Believe

Rather than introducing or creating ‘class rules’, these basic tenants are ideals our class holds about our classroom, our work together, and the world. Short, sweet, & easy to remember, these phrases have tremendous power and help build classroom community. Within the first few weeks of school, we discuss (as a class) the implications of these statements asking “How will my actions reflect these beliefs?”

The highlight of my week was doing a formal lesson on The Power of Yet! Hearing my kids now add the word 'yet' to the end of so many of their sentences has me feeling so happy. These first few weeks in first grade have been really challenging for so many of them, but their eyes have been opened to a new way of thinking. I'm so excited for my students to approach challenges with a different mindset. The best is yet to come. Happy Friday! Sarah #growthmindetbelivers #thepowerofyet
