The wines consists genuine products of Mount Athos. There are private vineyards and wineries as well as estates that cannot be modified. There are also other Holy Monasteries, Sketes and Cells which operate with grapes purchased by specific manufacturers. In many cases the bottling takes place by the monks-producers themselves on Mount Athos.

The tradition of the winemaking art is still preserved today on Mount Athos in a robust level. There are certain places, the so-called vagenaria, that are usually underground, where the wine is produced and maintained in large oak barrels. In the Karakallou monastery on Mt Athos - Greece the production doesn’t exceed the five tones. Deep purple in color, this dry red table wine bears a strong flavor of fresh red fruits and accompanies ideally grilled meat and pasta with red sauce.

It is a varietal wine that derives from the vineyards of the Monastery (organic grapes). The wine has been left to age for 12 months in the oak barrels of the Monastery before ending up in glass bottles. For more than a year the monks-winemakers placed this unique monastic product in bottles and a dark, undisturbed environment.
