Artist Elizabeth Colomba engages history from the perspective of black women
Elizabeth Colomba, 'Haven', 2012. The narrative conjured by Colomba shows Laure, the model Manet hired to pose as the maid for 'Olympia', as a free woman. 'Haven' was exhibited in New York's Gracie Mansion as part of the exhibition 'She Persists: A Century of Women Artists in New York, 1919–2019'.
