Pool Noodle Syllable Caterpillar
Gather your small group and show them pictures of items that have 1-3 syllables. I like to use the pictures from the Sorting Sounds book by Teach Bright but you could use any pictures. Next, introduce the caterpillar to your group and explain his purpose. Show the students a picture card, have them identify the picture, then ask them to tell you how many pieces to place on the caterpillar’s body as they listen to the syllables in the word.
Bloomin' Compound Words Freebie
This is flower themed activity that is designed to reinforce understanding of compound words. The activity can be used as a whole group game for introduction to the concept, or as a center. To play students match the flower petals to the middle to make compound words. Included recording sheet. For more tips and ideas, check out my blog! theappliciousteacher.blogspot.com
