Papaflessas (Fair Gregory) fought bravely during the 1821 revolution. He commanded Greek forces at the battle of Maniaki where he was kiled. The Turkish troops feared him so much that they beheaded his body at the end of the battle to make sure that he was dead

Armatoloi were Christian Greek irregular soldiers, or militia, commissioned by the Ottomans to enforce the Sultan's authority within an administrative district called an Armatoliki. Armatolikia were created in areas of Greece that had high levels of brigandage (klephts), or in regions that were difficult to govern due to inaccessible terrain.
