In the eight years since I first traveled outside of the U.S., I’ve lived in seven different countries, nine cities, and twelve homes. Although I am getting a bit tired of living out of one suitcase, I doubt it’ll ever live in the U.S. again. I know for a fact studying abroad with CEA has changed my life for the better and allowed me to live a life I could have never imagined.
My study abroad experience not only helped me land the job due to my experience with traveling & adapting to new environments, but I continue to use skills I learned during my study abroad program daily on the job. I have to work under pressure, use my French language to read documents and collaborate with foreign government & trade association members, and be proactive and creative.
You’re scheduled, very soon, to start educating yourself on a foreign culture, to navigate and prepare for your new position, and to manage your outside coursework. Meetings, classes, and deadlines splay themselves across your calendar, an unfamiliar schedule you’re excited if nervous to adhere to. Stress in the face of all this is perfectly natural. Based on my CEA Study Abroad international internship experience, I would like to provide some wellness tips. Many of these tips may seem small and trivial, but they can make a big difference. Small things can add up to something big. As we sit behind working on our computers with little in-person interaction, we oftentimes fail to take the appropriate time to check in on ourselves. If we fail to check in on ourselves frequently, it can become difficult to alleviate anxiety.
I don’t know if I could ever be a successful teacher if I hadn’t studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, through CEA. As a first-year Spanish teacher, I share many stories about the fantastic memories that were made in Buenos Aires. I talk about the empanadas, dancing the tango, and seeing Iguazú Falls, one of the most spectacular sights of my life.
