LES NABIS

Paul Sérusier was the person who joined a group of young students and gave shape to this movement, following the steps of his admired Paul Gauguin. The Nabis were viewed as conservative and, in fact, were among the last group of artists that adhere to the roots and to the artistic ambitions of the Impressionists, pursuing these ends almost in the middle of the 20TH century. In recent years, these painters also largely abandoned interests in applied and decorative arts. Among the artists who considered themselves Nabis Maurice put the objectives of the group in the eye of a public progressive, defininiendo his painting - "a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order" - expresses the Nabis approach.
