Pyrgi . Chios island. The entire village of Pyrgi  is one of the areas which still stands as it was built. The narrow roads, the innumerable churches, and amongst them the 13th century Byzantine church of St. Apostles in combination with the unique black and white geometrical decor of the outer walls of the houses. -The "ksista" -are the things which enchant the visitor.

Pyrgi is a medieval village on the Greek island of Chios. Its unique architecture features facades with decorative patterns made by scraping whitewash to reveal the plaster mixed with black sand beneath. The process is called xysta.
