The bacteria has an impact on human heath. Streptococcus pneumoniae is pathogenic and can cause pneumonia or secondary meningitis and is the leading cause of invasive bacterial disease in children and the elderly. Symptoms of pneumonia include: cough, shaking chills, fever (which may be high or mild), and shortness of breath ,which may only occur when climbing the stairs.
