Morning Meeting Time
I love the morning meeting time. There are so many skills that can be reviewed within these routines and we all know how much kinders love routines. I use equity sticks and do not have an assigned "calendar helper" or "weather helper" etc. I find that it keeps my students more engaged if they don't know exactly when they will be called on to help or ask a question. Once I get all the routines up and running I can run through the entire class at least once and sometimes twice. I'm listing the…

Redirecting
What do you do during your morning meeting? I don't know about you but I cover a wide variety of skills during my morning meeting. I don't have a smartboard so I like to use my white board to cover my skills. 1. For Starters I, or the Top Banana, will start the Good Morning poem and everyone will move to their seats on the carpet! By the time that we are finished saying the poem everyone is seated and ready to begin ***Update*** I typed up the Good Morning Poems Click HERE to get them 2…

Kindergarten Morning Board
We started school this week! I did not think I was ready, had not finished organizing the school room (dining room), but finishing up this project was a huge motivator for me to just do it. (I debated waiting a week or two until I was "ready." Well, I figured life will go on no matter what, so we might as well jump in.) We have had a great week so far, so I am glad we did! Here is how we are starting our day: This is geared towards Malachi mostly. I started homeschooling when Dylan was in 5K…

How to Teach Decomposing and Composing Numbers
What we just explored why decomposing and composing numbers really is crazy important in kindergarten. This is part 2 of this series - it's all about making practicing this skill regularly a cinch in the kindergarten classroom. << Previous Page - Part 1 As a recap, I know that we often call this common core standard 'place value,' but really it is number sense. Our kinders truly have to understand what these numbers are: in quantityin number formas a numeraland in comparison to their…
Kindergarten Hoppenings
First things first. I created a new packet of worksheets. I know that lots of people frown upon them; however, I do find the ocassional worksheet to be a useful tool in my classroom. I find that they can help assess students learning and they can also help reinforce teaching. If you've followed my blog for any amount of time, I've created loads of worksheets over the years and one of the things I've realized is that more often than not, I need LEVELS with these worksheets. I need more…

Promethean Board Calendar Linky Party
Oceans of First Grade Fun is hosting a Linky Party on Calendar VS. Promethean Board Here's what I do! I got my new Promethean Board in January. The placement of my board was put over my current calendar board so I decided to go away with the calendar board and put it on the Promethean. I love it! It is so convenient and everyone can see it. Each of our students have a folder that contains the month's calendar pages. We follow ideas that on are Meecham's webpage. This is a direct link. We…
