Of the 6 men depicted in the photo, 3 (Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, & Michael Strank) were killed during the battle; the 3 survivors (John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, & Ira Hayes) became National Heroes upon their identification in the photo....
