Parade helmet from Metapontum, in Magna Graecia, 6th cent. BCE. Hammered from a single piece of bronze with designs made by repoussé, punching, tracing, and engraving. The top is surmounted by a ram's head (partially restored). The cheekpieces are decorated with rams' heads. Over the forehead, a series of curls falls in a row to form the hairline. Below the curls is a repoussé line that forms the eyebrows and terminates in bearded snakes' heads with forked tongues.
