'David' is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created between 1501 and 1504 by Michelangelo. It depicts the Biblical story of David and Goliath. The statue was moved to the Galleria dell'Accademia, in Florence, Italy, in 1873.

Sculpture was Michelangelo's true calling and he regretted that he had not done more of it. He defined sculpture as the art of "taking away" not that of "adding on". See his brilliant sculptures and his obsessive sculpting process.

Medici Chapel (Cappella Medicea) is the chapel housing monuments to members of the Medici family, in the New Sacristy of the Church of San Lorenzo in Florence. The funereal monuments were commissioned in 1520 by Pope Clement VII (formerly Cardinal Giulio de' Medici), executed largely by Michelangelo from 1520 to 1534, and completed by Michelangelo's pupils after his departure.
