Greek syrupy walnut pie (karidopita) recipe Walnut Pie, Small Baking Dish, Cinnamon Powder, Puddings, Amazing Cakes, Sweet Recipes, Banana Bread, Biscuits, Greek

Karidopita recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

Walnut pie is a traditional syrupy dessert that is served on holidays; usually during Christmas, but also at name days or birthdays. It is basically a spiced walnut cake soaked in syrup, but it is called pie (pita) in Greek. There are various versions of it, depending on the area, but this is my favourite, as it is extremely fluffy. You can chop or grind the walnuts as much as you want, you can even use a processor, but I prefer them coarsely chopped. Also, you can substitute brandy for…

Revani Sweet Desserts, Sweet Recipes, Glass Baking Dish, How To Squeeze Lemons, Shredded Coconut, Puddings, Birthday Candles, Biscuits, Dishes

Revani recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

Revani is a very sweet, syrupy dessert. You can find variations of it in Greece and in other neighbouring countries, like Turkey, where they make amazing desserts and syrupy ones are their speciality. This is one of my favourite versions, it is quick and easy and it has the best ratio of cake to syrup, but you can make it with more syrup if you like. The normal recipe is made with semolina, while this one is made with flour.

Bougatsa recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

Bougatsa can be sweet or savoury; it is a common Greek breakfast snack, usually found in shops that specialize in breakfast foods that you can take away. Other goodies you can enjoy there are tiropita (feta pie), spanakopita (spinach, or spinach-and-feta, pie), loukanikopita (sausage pie), calzone, peinirli, pizza slices and other variations of these. Cream bougatsa is the sweet version of it. You haven't tried good bougatsa, unless you have made your own. The shops’ one is edible, for when…

Epic chocolate cake! Tin Loaf, Sweet Recipes, Cake Recipes, Dark Chocolate Cakes, Baking Tins, Vegetarian Chocolate, Puddings, Beautiful Cakes, Biscuits

Epic chocolate cake recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

This recipe makes a very wonderfully rich and dark chocolate cake, that is as fun to make as it is to eat. Even if it fails and deflates, it is still presentable and tasty; in fact, you might even prefer it deflated*, as it changes texture and becomes moist in some places, but still airy and fluffy in others. It is also versatile; you can serve it plain, or with dusted powdered sugar, with icing, with fruit or whipped cream or you can even cut it in half horizontally and fill it with…

Jam biscuits (spitzbuben) recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

These biscuits are probably the first thing I ever cooked by myself, when I was about 7 years old. They are a perfect treat for the holidays, so yummy that you will make them again and again, all year round. They are traditional German jam biscuits, called spitzbuben and they are a variation of Linzer biscuits (no grounded almond in the German ones). The recipe is from a children's recipe book by Unicef, called Little Cooks, that has "recipes from around the world for boys and girls". It has…

Rizogalo (rice pudding) recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

Rizogalo (its direct translation is rice-milk) is a warm childhood memory of mine. I grew up in a small town, at a time when we had a neighbourhood cow and the milk tasted so very differently, it’s almost as if it was something else entirely. A neighbour of mine was a lady that usually had no patience for other peoples’ kids, except for when her grandchildren visited from abroad. At those rare occasions (less than once per year), she made rice pudding for the family and as a friend of the…

Kourabiedes Kourabiedes Recipe, Shortcake Biscuits, Almond Nut, Large Tray, Pastry Shop, Few Ingredients, Bite Size, Christmas Treats, Puddings

Kourabiedes recipe — Gina Lioti Cooking

Kourabiedes (kourabies in singular) are usually made as a Christmas treat In Greece. They are a Greek variation of shortcake biscuits with almonds and lightly dusted powdered sugar. Kourabiedes originate from Persia, but since then they have taken many forms and many places make them differently. In Greece, the traditional ones are made with butter, although many contemporary recipes use margarine or sunflower oil, but the ones made with pure butter are far superior. In some areas they are…
