A variety of military-themed movies would make for good viewing during Memorial Day weekend. Taking Chance (2009) stars Kevin Bacon as a jaded officer escorting the body of a fallen marine home for his funeral. Other military movies include Sergeant York (1941), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), The Great Escape (1963), The Dirty Dozen (1967), M.A.S.H. (1970), Platoon (1986), Glory (1989) and Saving Private Ryan (1989).
