The blood hydrostatic pressure is higher the glomerulus than anywhere else in the body because the afferent arteriole is larger than the efferent arteriole, therefore constituting a smaller outlet. The colloid osmotic pressure (COP) of the blood is the same as anywhere else, and the glomerular filtrate has no COP due to its lack of proteins. Because there is a high blood pressure in the glomeruli, the kidneys are susceptible to hypertension.
