Are You Buying Bad Coffee? Darker, oilier beans are a no-no. I was unfortunate enough to get a terrible batch recently, and it's hardly even worth drinking! And I'm one of those people who will use something up to the last drop rather than throw it away. I don't know if I can make it to the end of these beans, though. My go-to (budget-friendly) favorite right now, however, is Sumatra from the World Market!

Are You Buying Bad Coffee?

The Huffington Post recently wrote a piece insisting most of us don’t know what bad coffee looks like. The article insists that, contrary to what so many of us may think, dark roast coffee is actually bad coffee. I couldn’t help but recall the uber-dark, oily beans that my parents always bought, and how at coffee shops today I always insist on “the darkest roast you have on hand.” But maybe I’m one of those people the author is referring to.

What You Taste When You Taste Sumatran Coffee.

What You Taste When You Taste Sumatran Coffee

Why is Sumatran coffee so contentious? Coffees in Sumatra are traditionally processed using a method called Giling Basah, or wet-hulling, which results in a coffee that leaves the farm with a much higher moisture content than other methods used more popularly worldwide. Coffee processed this way tend to be described as herbaceous, spicy, wild, mushroomy, funky, earthy, and other things that may or may not sound good to you.
