Vangelis Papathanasiou - known simply as Vangelis - is considered probably the greatest composer of electronic music and is famous for his movie soundtracks, one of which - Chariots of Fire - was acclaimed and awarded an Oscar.
Yannis Markopoulos (born 1939): a Greek composer, whose work has been influenced by the Cretan traditional music. He composed music on the poetry of Seferis and Elytis. In 1976 he composed the popular liturgy The Free Besieged, based on the poem by Greece’s national poet Dionysios Solomos. In 1977 he composed the music for the BBC television series Who Pays the Ferryman? The musical theme was a hit in Britain and gained the composer international renown.
