Greece Travel Inspiration - Lion Gateway at Mycenae, Mycenaean, Late Bronze Age (1600 - 1100 BC), 1250 BC ---- Schliemann went to troy and found the lost city he read about in Homer's epics - dug over 1,000 years too deep, but got the treasure - then he went to Mycenae - Heads of lions missing. Nobody thought to dig there, knowing it was part of Homeric poems - Schliemann excavated.
