This sculpture was probably made in the 1st or 2nd century AD and is a Roman copy of an earlier Greek origina. The original sculpture, now lost, may have been of bronze or marble, perhaps dating to the 2nd century BC.

this reminded me a lot of the winged victory of samothrace statue that is in the louvre, paris. this was found in the national portrait gallery in washington d.c. i love the idea of statues creating a wet illusion.
