Big bamboo

The term "Giant Bamboo" is actually a somewhat generic name for a variety of timber bamboos from several different species.

Bambusa vulgaris or Common Bamboo is a giant tropical and subtropical clumping bamboo native to southern China and Madagascar. This species is cultivated extensively in many parts of the world.

Guadua Bamboo, better known as "World's Strongest Bamboo" or "Vegetal Steel" is a giant South American bamboo species with a higher tensile strength than steel.

Bambusa ventricosa (Buddha's Belly) - Under harsh conditions, this bamboo develops short swollen internodes - hence its name 'Buddha's Belly'. Not to be confused with 'Giant Buddha's Belly' (B. Vulgaris cv. Wamin).

Gigantochloa robusta - A giant bamboo with straight cream striated culms with large leaves. The culms are smooth and glossy. The timber is usually nice and straight, and the shoots are high eating quality.
