Contra Costa: “Contra Costa” Train Ferry, Port Costa, c.1920 Launched in 1914, this was one of two enormous railroad ferryboats that operated across the Carquinez Strait from Benicia to Port Costa until 1930. The "Contra Costa" was 433 feet in length and along with the "Solano" were the largest ferry boats in the world.
