1958 Cost of Living. We got married in 1956 and grandpa made $435.00 per month! Our rent was $75.00 per month! We paid for gas & electric. We had a 5 room apartment on the second floor of a 2 flat house. We had a hot water tank in the kitchen we had to light when we wanted hot water! Learned to plan ahead.
