Damascus gate

Damascus Gate (Arabic: باب العامود‎, translit. Bāb al-ʿĀmūd, Hebrew: שער שכם‬, Sha'ar Sh'khem) is one of the main entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem. In its current form, the gate was built in 1537 under the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

In 1854, French photographer and archaeologist Auguste Salzmann traveled to Jerusalem to search for the biblical history visible in the city's architecture.

JERUSALEM EVENING DAMASCUS GATE

It is one of the main Gates of the Old City of Jerusalem, Palestine, in the northwest wall connecting it to the city of Nablus, Palestine. In Arabic it's referred to as Bab-al-Nasr (باب النصر) which means "gate of victory," and also Bab al-Amud (باب العامود). It means "gate of the column." CLICK TO ENLARGE.
