Josh Gardens on Instagram: "Have you tried grafting fruit trees yet? 🍏 🍎 🍐 🌳 It’s easier than you think!

I started practicing on citrus trees years and have one tree with 11 different types of citrus on it. 🪴

There are several considerations before trying to graft but these points are the basics to get you started. ✅

1. Timing ⏱️ - it’s best done while the tree is dormant but right before bud break for deciduous trees. This means late winter or early spring.
2. Protection 🛡️- the #1 reason grafts fail is because they dry out. Parafilm is the most popular tool but there are many other ways to keep the moisture in.
3. Alignment 📏 - the cambium layer is the green under the bark. That has to line up at least one side of the graft for it to take.
