The hamstrings are the often neglected muscle of the body along with the calves. They are composed of 3 muscles: the semimembranosus semitendinosus and biceps femoris. They all are biarticular and thus cross both the hip and knee joints. Their functions are hip extension like when you thrust and knee flexion like when you bend your leg.
