This started out as a quick sketch, but I decided to spend a little more time on it refining the details. Sargent painted a portrait of Henry Lee Higginson in 1903, who was the founder of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. My study is a cropped area closer to the face.

The MFA in Boston is having a show of a fantastic number of Sargent's Watercolors. This was the entry sign along side a large slide show featuring a musical piece titled Water Games that inspired Sargent by French composer Maurice Ravel.
