Tiffany & Company designer Oscar Riedner sketched the idea for National Football League’s ultimate prize on a cocktail napkin during a lunch in 1966 with then Commissioner Pete Rozelle. Rozelle approved it before lunch was over and the trophy was awarded at the first Super Bowl in 1967. The trophy was renamed for legendary coach Vince Lombardi in 1970.
