Having steam in the images communicates as if food is just freshly made and warm out of the pan. Most of the time this isn't the case in food photography. Even if we prepare the set before we bring out the food, it may take sometime until we get a perfect beautiful shot. So I learned a little trick: soak tampon in a boiling water and put it behind the food. It creates a beautiful realistic steam and holds it for a while.
