A few new works and "Nonsense Work No.1"

I wrote in an earlier post about how I was going to "explore more". Well, I have been working in gouache and creating works to translate into larger pieces in oil. I am hoping they will work up well to about 30" x 40" in size and I plan I limiting my number of strokes so that means using some BIG brushes. Peggi Kroll Roberts Workshop, day three

Another cloudy day, so we painted indoors again. We began with the contour drawings, and then another exercise to reinforce value. This time, we mixed different pairs of colors that would be used to define light and shadow on the figure. Peggi encouraged us to mix any combination that we wanted to try. I Showed Up for Work.

There's a saying. "Inspiration is for amateurs, professionals show up for work". Well, after our workshop here I was tired an felt uninspired. I tried to paint the landscape and struggled. It really takes the wind out of my sails. I said to myself to get out to the studio, show up for work. So I did. The goal was to do just that.
