Hello friends!! I am SO sorry I have been gone for FAR too long. I am just more exhausted than usual! I never remember to take photos either! BUT...I did finally get around to some photo taking, and I hope to have a few fun posts in the next few weeks! I wanted to share

Task 1 Quiet Critters act as a positive reinforcement for students who are on task and working hard. These tiny pets will motivate students to want to do their work rather than students feeling that quiet work is a punishment or boring. I strongly believe that a classroom should be filled with energy and student involvement, but there are times when working quietly is appropriate. Essentially, “Quiet Critters” are pom-poms with googgly eyes and felt feet that act as little noise level monitors. The idea is that they live in a large jar which is soundproof and only come out when it is quiet. Too much noise and they get frightened and go back into the jar.

I'm sure you've seen the images on the TV of the flooding that many parts of the state are experiencing. It's really sad - especially since many families and businesses are still recovering from the 2011 floods. :( To try and make the best use of the forced time inside, I worked on some lesson planning and sorted through my…

I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' today to share one of my most helpful hints {I believe} for teachers. It can be difficult to get a classroom full of 6 year olds to work quietly. I've tried lots of different things to get my students to work without talking for 10-15 min. at a time, but nothing has worked as good as... I discovered this lovely concept a few years ago from a good friend who also teaches 1st grade. She had seen the idea on pinterest so I searched to see if I could find the…

Cassie Stephens on Instagram: "Got chatty classes that you wish would focus a little (or a lot!) more on the task at hand? Then might I suggest Quiet Critters (shout out to @art_with_mia for this idea!) Even my FOURTH GRADERS asked for these 😳🤣😳and I happily obliged. Here I am introducing them to my kindergarten. Keep in mind ANYTHING can be a quiet critter…so hit those thrift stores for little stuffed animals or action figures. My students loved them so much they drew portraits of them in their free time!
