Once common throughout the southeastern USA, red wolves have been reduced to the brink of extinction. In 2015 the conservation of the red wolf was stopped & no action was taken to prosecute the small group of North Carolina poachers (male hunters) who picked off the remaining wolves one by one. A KEYSTONE SPECIES, wolves play a critical role in maintaining the structure of an ecological community. Without keystone species, the ecosystem would be dramatically different or cease to exist.
