Darry Cowl | Dog photos, Retro dog, Animal photoshoot

French postcard by Ed. Borde, Bal, no. 106. Photo: Wiezniak / Philips. French comic actor and musician Darry Cowl (1925 - 2006) appeared in more than 150 films, often as a clown with a chronic stutter. Many of his comedies were not worth his talents, but at the end of his life, he made a glorious come-back and won the César twice. 1870s CDV of Fluffy White Dog by Bradley & Rulofson, San Francisco

1870s cdv of little, fluffy white dog wearing a bow and sitting on a draped table. Photo by Bradley & Rulofson, 429 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, Cal., whose studio was considered to be one of the pre-eminent photographic galleries in the West in the 1860s and 1870s. On the back of the card it reads: "Have the only elevator connected with photography in the world." This refers to the hydraulic elevator that the partners installed in their studio in 1872. Meet the Golden girls. To no one’s surprise, Finch, Harper and Radley Wintour were naturals in front of the camera: fresh from a visit to their groomer (they have a standing weekly appointment), they were carefully coiffed, softly scented, and utterly professional—if occasionally a little chatty. At the link in our bio, their walker Olaseni Olukogbon answers Vogue’s #Dogue questionnaire—with a little help from Anna and Bee Carrozzini. Photographed by @ok__mccausland
