The way in which the ceiling is constructed, showing its design in segments is called Ribbed Vaults. They are mostly common in Continental Europe. This one in particular is called Notre-Dame de Paris and it is beautiful.

Rib vault, a skeleton of arches or ribs on which masonry can be laid to form a ceiling or roof. Rib vaults were frequently used in medieval buildings, most famously in Gothic cathedrals. The rib vault arose out of efforts to solve the challenges associated with supporting heavy masonry ceiling vaults over wide spans.

Sexpartite vault (or six-part vault), in architecture, is a rib vault divided into six bays by two diagonal ribs and three transverse ribs. Legend: a, transverse ribs (doubleaux); b, wall-ribs (formerets); c, groin-ribs (diagonaux). All the ribs are semi-circle.
