Saint Anna of Larissa and Her Son John
Orphan Saint Anna (5th cent) was adopted by a nobleman who raised and educated her. He then wed her to his son. When the nobleman died, relatives pressed the son to leave Anna and marry a noblewoman; however, he feared God and wouldn't. Seeing the family conflict, pregnant Anna left one night for a deserted island. She bore a son, whom a passing monk baptized John, and asceticized there for 30 years. (Jun 13)
