Lord Byron was an English poet and a leading figure in the Romantic movement. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential. He traveled to fight against the Ottoman Empire in the Greek War of Independence, and died at 36 years of age from a fever contracted while in Missolonghi. Byron was celebrated in life for aristocratic excesses. It has been speculated that he suffered from bipolar I disorder.

George Gordon, Lord Byron was a poet of the century who was as notorious for his scandalous affairs as for his brilliant, wildly popular verse. He was the first to be described as "mad, bad and dangerous to know", by a spurned lover.
