The shadow screen is a wonderful addition to a classroom. The children have opportunity to build and see objects grow and shrink. The possibilities are endless and when you add translucent objects, colors explode.
Practice setting up provocations with beautiful, open-ended materials. Look at all the wonderful textures, colors, and opportunities for language! Fantastic!
By creating a wide variety of learning stations/areas, even a big open room can feel intimate and inviting, it's all about purposeful use of space and carefully thought out design. That is what the Reggio principle of "environment as the 3rd teacher" is all about.

This classroom is Reggio inspired, and I would love to incorporate some of these elements in my own classroom one day. I especially like the small sofa, curtains, and shelving units.
