Spinalonga Island. The island was subsequently used as a leper colony from 1903 to 1957. It is notable for being one of the last active leper colonies in Europe. The last inhabitant, a priest, left the island in 1962.
The lighthouse of Rethymno is located on the edge of the old wharf of the Venetian harbor on the island of Crete. It is Egyptian construction in 1838 when the Turks gave Crete to Mehmet Ali and the Egyptians. This is the second largest remaining Egyptian lighthouse in Greece, the first is in Chania. Currently, the lighthouse of Rethymno is not in operation.
