Just off Route 9 in Yonkers, a half-hour drive north of New York City, the Boyce Thompson Institute is an abandoned agricultural institute where the plants have gone wild. The institute was founded by mining magnate Boyce Thompson, and opened its doors in 1924 with the goal of studying plants - abandoned in 1978.

Madame Sherri's Castle-Chesterfield, New Hampshire. The site had once been the location of a luxurious home, built in 1931 by Madame Antoinette Sherri. Though destroyed by fire in 1962, remnants of the extravagant home still remain. The most striking feature of the ruins is an arched staircase, which breaks free from the forest floor and reaches upward to nowhere.
