Our version of the hands heart photo for the silent auction at our school's Art Night fundraiser. It was quite a task getting all of those kindergarteners to keep their hands in place and hold still for the picture, and while it's not totally perfect, and we ended up with a few little heads in there, it still looked great, and the kids loved it. A local photo lab donated their services and printed it on a canvas for us. It ended up getting quite a few bids @ the silent auction on Art Night!

Sohl Design

Have you seen those adorable burlap bulletin boards, memo boards, shadow boxes - and anything else you can think of, covered with burlap? There's all kinds of accent pieces in stores featuring burlap fabric. I am a big fan of that stuff. But, sometimes I see something and think, "I could make that." So, I decided to actually try it. I saw this board in TJ Maxx for around $20 and a larger one behind it for around $40. It's essentially just a board, burlap and decorative nail head trim. I knew…

Co-Creating Our Alphabet

I used to have my classes co-create an alphabet, but I truly did not understand the philosophy behind it when I first started. I thought it was more about having things in the room that were created by children. More for aesthetics than anything else. Because of this, I have had the same co-created alphabet up for the last four years. It was beautiful and the kids did such a great job. I thought of it as preserving history to keep their hard work up there. Now, after reading more about the…
